When doing research for my paper, I thought that this photo was particularly interesting. Is Facebook equally addictive as drugs? Something weird to think about...

Hi everyone,

Well since Prof Campbell said that we can use our blog as a daybook type thing, I thought I'd update my blog today. I am not in class, I am not skipping.. well I kind of am, but I am in Athens, GA with my best friend from home, Devon King. 

This is me and Devon:

 The reason that I am here is because a year ago, today February 22, is the day that Devon's little sister, Merrill, died. It is a very long story but to make a long story short, Merrill was diagnosed with leukemia in 4th grade and had been fighting the disease until she died. In fact, she didn't really die from leukemia, she died from a virus. If a healthy person got this virus they would just get pink eye, but since Merrill's immune system was shot, the virus spread to her blood and then to her brain. She was put into a coma four days before she passed away, so she died peacefully. Merrill was 3 days short of her 16th birthday, her 17th is this Friday. 

I am here with Devon celebrating her life. We miss you m. love you.

For my research paper I want to look into the questions: "Is Facebook addictive?" or "Does the fact that Facebook is so pressing on our generation's lives effect our grades?"

Ads on Facebook

Hello fellow bloggers,
I never really noticed the ads on the right hand side of my computer on Facebook until Prof Campbell pointed them out, kind of embarrassing but whatever. Now that I am noticing them, I think that it is weird that they pertain to your life, like Facebook somehow knows where you are currently living and that I play tennis. But while I was Facebook stalking today, this is what ads appeared on the right hand side of my screen.

365 Things to do in Charlotte Before You Die
I like things like this, lists I guess you can call them. I clicked on this link because I was curious but of course it was an obnoxious series of questions like: where do you live (I thought you already knew i was in Charlotte?) and my email address, so I exited the page because I do not want 8036 email regarding things to do in Charlotte. After clicking on one of the ads, it became a lot clearer to me that they are unnecessary. I don't plan on living in Charlotte until the day that I die, but I highly doubt that if I did, I would want to do a lot of the things on the list. I can't even see the list, so whatever. That was just a waste of 2 minutes.

This ad stood out to me because as I am sitting at my desk, the giant pile of dirty clothes is rising behind me slowly. I need to laundry so badly but it is such a chore. Doing laundry in college means that you have to block out at least 3 hours of your time to take your clothes out of the washer and transport them to the dryer so SOMEBODY who is having an awful day and is painfully impatient doesn't throw your pile of wet clothes on the dirty laundry room floor. Rude. Living at home was so much easier, my mom doing my laundry weekly was so nice. Definitely took that for granted. Miss you mom. I'll save the laundry for another day.

Perfect Baby Name Finder
This was a little awkward to see on the side of my page... I am not expecting a child next week or in the next 5 years if that. As a girl though, I have thought of baby names for my potential children. I like Hadley for a girl. And Noah for a boy. I want somewhat simple names for my kids because my name was so difficult growing up with, people dont seem to understand Gillian and even worse, Gilly.

Random Post

As I sit in my dorm room, bored out of my mind and avoiding homework, I realized something. It's cliche to say that Facebook has taken over the thoughts, actions and debates of kids my age but it is also very true. My biology homework is sitting in front of me along with my computer and I keep jumping back to my computer to see if anything has changed on my home page. I am not looking for anything in particular, just looking out of habit. It is quite embarrassing how much time people my age spend on Facebook. I think I would be a lot more studious if Facebook was not around but on the other hand, what would I do with all my spare time? Facebook has shaped the way that we live, it is how we learn about the drama, or people passing away, or people getting married. It is now a way of life. I don't know what compelled me to write about that, but that just blows my mind. People wonder how the teenagers of the past lived without it, but I wonder what it would be like. I could delete my page, but what good would that do if everyone else still has it? I don't know, just my random thoughts.
